Great news! After months of house preparation in Massachusetts we sold our home of 24 years and headed west. It was a hell of a process, but we did it. Thankfully, Liz is an incredible organizer and ran the whole project (and me) the way she runs her consulting work—like a boss!
Our goods will arrive with the movers soon, and we can’t wait to get the apartment set up. A week without dishes, pots, pans, etc. can get old pretty quick. But our things will soon be here.
In the meantime, we have been exploring cafes, restaurants, farmers markets and taprooms to find places that we like. We found a wonderful cafe called What Cafe that opened just a few months ago. It has, by far, the best croissants I’ve had outside of Paris. Truly. Flakey, buttery, with just the right crunch and oh-so-tasty. They melt in your mouth. And while we’ve eaten mostly healthy foods, we look forward to getting back to home-cooked meals.
Our car was dropped off a few nights ago by the shipping service, and Liz and I immediately took it out to a car wash because it was sooo dirty from its ride on the car carrier. Now it looks like our good old Subaru.
Last weekend we took the time, after breakfast, to explore a little. We went to the San Jose Municipal Rose Garden, and what a wonderful place it is! Who knew you could see flowering roses in December?! The air temp was a lovely 63°. The evenings get cool down to about 45°, but it’s still very comfortable.
What we are doing here is a great thing. My new job is very challenging, and I enjoy it. I went from knowing everything about my old job to knowing nothing about my new one. It’s hard, amazing, and humbling. The people I work with are remarkable, and I’m very thankful for the opportunity. Liz is looking for work in her field and would love to find a job at Stanford. It seems like a pretty groovy place.
We are excited to be on this adventure. Who knows where it will lead?
