In photography, I seek out human expression. Today, Marathon Monday, I ran head-long into positive expression.
The finish line of the Boston Marathon is a holy grail for many runners. While some athletes cross the finish line exhausted, others somehow finish with a burst of energy, thrilled with their accomplishment. This photo shows one runner to be one of these people. I shot 15 frames of her about 30 seconds from the finish line. She is elated! Going through the string of images, I found myself smiling at images as she blew kisses, hollered to the raucous crowd, and pumped her arms in victory.
In this photo, she embodies the positive and the energetic. She has just run 26.1 miles, and she looks like she’s ready for a few more. Joyous is the word I would use. To capture something so touching and positive always feels like a reward to me. It feels like she ran the race, but I got the reward. How great is that?!
